PORÃO DE SONS

Much thanks to Mike McCulloch of KRLX and Gabe Knox from Ryerson RTA for joining us today on ESB Brazil. Their expertise on everything from favela funk to tropicalismo was superb and I hope to have them on the show again in the future. Here's a track list:

MC MARCINHO - Princesa
EXALTA SAMBA - Graca
JORGE BEN - Ponta de Lanca (Umbabarauama)
GILBERTO GIL + OS MUTANTES - Geléia Geral
CAETANO VELOSO + CHICO BUARQUE - Tropicalia (Live)
GILBERTO GIL + OS MUTANTES - Domingo no Parque
ESCOLA DE SAMBA - Jongo Jade
MARACATU NUNCA ANTES - Moro-mi-ma
MARACATU NUNCA ANTES - Seque Embaixador
MARACATU NUNCA ANTES - Baques de Maracatu
OS MUTANTES - A Minha Menina

* Note: as mentioned on the show, Diplo's Favela On Blast was spinning as a bed track during our discussions. Unfortunately there is no available track list for this comp but you can read a partial list here.

Make sure to check out Pass the Dynamite at Stone's Place if you're in the Toronto area. What was originally supposed to be a one-off night of smashin' soul and rock from the 50s and 60s is now making its way to the club for a second go. Come out and dance to the music provided by Serge Cassano, Dionne Warpig and the lovely Elaine Banks of CIUT 89.5FM.

Also, at College and Shaw they're throwing the World Cup Weekend which will more than likely feature some street performances by the aforementioned Maracatu Nunca Antes, the hottest (in both sound and looks) rhythm group in Canada.
